First up, gather your supplies.
You need:
- a pair of scissors (optional; to cut the lace)
- a piece of lace
- some clay (I used Sculpey)
- a pin roller
- a shaped cutter (mine was a heart)
- a toothpick (optional)
Then, knead your clay and roll out your clay so it is all roughly the same size.
Then, place your lace over the clay, and roll it a second time. Be gentle, but use enough force to press the lace into the clay.
Peel back the lace. It may stick to the clay a little bit, but that's alright. Just gently separate the two.
Voila! You now have an elegant lace imprint in your clay.
Note: the imprint does remain in the clay even once it's baked.
Now, just out whatever shape you want from the clay. You could use the toothpick to create a hole for a jump ring to make a necklace pendant. Or you could glue it onto a ring base to make a ring- like I did. You could even use it as a gift tag for presents around Christmas time or birthdays.
If you decide to make one, tell me how it goes! c:
I have done this in the past with great results! If you take some gold paste and rub it gently over the top of the piece, you can have it gilded also. Love to roll my beads in lace and then gild them, antique them or whatever I want. Am always looking for different textures to 'mold'. I have used bottles, picture frames and different types of clothing. Floss works well also as you can make your own pattern. Great job! Oh, a lacy border would look nice too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda! Gilding the clay sounds really cool. I never thought of using other molds; thanks for sharing! I'll have to remember the tip about using floss to make your own design. c:
DeleteSo so pretty! :) Hope you're doing well sweet girl!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Oh, you're too sweet! I'm doing very well. c: Hope you're doing well, too!
DeleteAdorable! You can use just about anything to texture or imprint clay and this idea is very nice! Great results!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried using any others things in clay? Maybe leaves or any other textured objects?
Thank you so much!
DeleteActually, just the other day, I did try using leaves. In my ceramics class at school, we rolled out some clay and imprinted leaves into it (instead of lace). Then, we laid them over bowls, let them dry, and fired them in the kiln so that they are bowls with leave shapes in them. They're pretty cool, so I'll post some pictures of them once my teacher has graded them. c:
I can't wait to see some of those pictures!
DeleteI have another question, if you do not mind!
What types of things have you tried making with clay? I am especially interested in jewelry items. Maybe charm bracelets or anything else? I just love making clay things except I use cold porcelain and another air dry clay!
;)
Oh, I don't mind your questions at all; I enjoy your enthusiasm! :)
DeleteI usually make necklace pendants and rings, and my sister's friend makes things like magnet, key chains, and stuff like that. Either today or tomorrow, I am going to make an owl necklace pendant for my sister as a Christmas gift because she loves owls, so I'll be posting about that soon.
I also want to make Christmas tags to put on gifts this year.
You can do a ton with clay; I've even seen people braid clay together to make some really cool bracelets such as in this post: http://www.delightedmomma.com/2011/08/diy-braided-clay-bracelet.html
That is very nice! I am so glad to hear that you are using your cute creations as gifts. Last year, I made a complete set for a friend of mine. There were 2 normal small charms, a magnet and a mirror! They were the small mirrors and I still absolutely adore them!
DeleteI am definitely going to come back every now and then to see the new things you add! And I absolutely can't wait for those pictures!!
Thank you for your kind replies and I am so glad I stopped by and saw your wonderful works of art! Great job! ;)
You are just too sweet! <3
DeleteIf you have any pictures of the things that you've made, I would love to see them!
Why, thank you! I'll be sure to post the pictures as soon as I can. c:
Thank you for your awesome comments! I'm so glad you stopped by, too! :D
I'm not sure if I can get some pictures to you but I am really looking forward to yours!
DeleteI'm sure your sister will love the pendant and I can't wait to see how it turns out when you get it done!
You know, these are those creative and kind people that I just love talking to! Thank you! Your creative ideas and sweet attitude just make my day!!
Keep up all your awesome art. I just love it. <3
I will be checking back soon ;)
Oh, ok. c:
DeleteHaha, I was just going to say that you have made my day ten times better!
Thank you so much! <3
So you don't have a blog of your own?
Oh why thank you!
DeleteNo I do not have my own blog.
Thanks again! Have a great day! ;)
No problem. :)
DeleteThanks much! Hope you have a blessed day as well. c:
